8Days Highlights of Rwanda Safari

Here, you can take a trip to the city’s picturesque hills, local markets, and sites that tell the past like the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The next stop is Volcanoes National Park and you will trek the mountain gorillas; what a rare and unique experience! Besides, you will also visit Iby’iWacu Cultural Village where Rwandan heritage is reenacted through music, dance, and storytelling.

It will be a long hike, but worth it as you will be visiting Dian Fossey’s Tomb and the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund afterwards. Then enjoy relaxing and having fun in the form of exploring the different attractions around Lake Kivu such as Hot springs of Gisenyi, cycling, and boat cruises, among others while you are also at peace with nature.

The next stop will be the stunning Akagera National Park which is known for its big five animals. A gorgeous boat ride at Lake Ihema will be your next activity where you will spot some hippos, crocodiles, and birds in their natural habitat, and after that, you will go for an exhilarating guided game drive across the park’s rolling savannahs.

Finally, you will go back to Kigali where you will take time to admire the beauty, strength, and variety of wildlife in Rwanda — a truly memorable African tour.

Volcanoes Gorilla Tracking Experience – After completing the park formalities, a one-time trek begins up the slopes of the northern Virungas to the rare mountain gorillas. Once you find the gorilla group, you will be allowed to observe and take photos for one complete hour. It is an enthralling journey through the light montane forests on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains where these majestic animals are normally hard to spot because they hide in the thick tropical foliage. Still, you will get to see them from a distance of just a few meters. The park authorities have put in place safety and comfort measures for you: thus they require you to wear hiking boots, long trousers, and a face mask plus gloves, and insect repellent and a water bottle should also be among your trekking gear. If the hike takes longer than usual, your ranger guide will choose a safe place for a picnic lunch either in between or after the hike. Later, take a trip to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village where the traditions and cultural heritage of Rwanda are displayed. After the cultural tour, return to the lodge to change before dinner.
