Al Quaraouiyine University is the cultural and spiritual pillar of Morocco and is one of its most significant microcosms of intellectual and scientific life. The university, which was opened in 859 A.D., continues to boast its place in history as the event of the longest running universities of all times. The school, which is in the center of the medina of Fes, has facilitated the reformation of education, science, religion, and philosophy not just in the Islamic world but also in the Western world. History & Foundation
Al Quaraouiyine was established by the great visionary Fatima al-Fihri, who through her donation founded this learning center which has prevailed for more than a thousand years. The school gradually progressed from a mosque to a university that was at the top of the list for theology, law, mathematics, astronomy, and medicine studies.

Al Quaraouiyine was the meeting point for scholars from the whole of North Africa, Andalusia, and the Middle East. Its power was such that it went beyond Europe and was a factor in the rise of medieval education and scholarship.
