Situated in the eastern Jordanian desert, Qasr Amra is an early Islamic architecture marvel and art valued. Its foundation was laid in the early 8th century and it became a desert sanctuary of the Umayyad caliphs and nobles.
What give Qasr Amra its very uniqueness are the brilliantly preserved frescoes, showing royal life, hunting scenes, zodiac symbols, and even constellations – a rare artistic treasure that has ever so much to tell about the Umayyad world. The small, domed bathhouse and audience hall demonstrate great engineering and design for the period.
