Shobak — popularly known as Montreal Castle — is standing on a high and craggy hill and it is one of the most attractive among the Crusader-era sites in Jordan. Built in the early 12th century by Baldwin, King of Jerusalem, the Shobak Castle is a mighty representation of the Middle Ages, on the top of which, Great Rift Valley and Jordanian desert are spread out.
Travelers can walk through the castle’s old paths, discover hidden tunnels, and ascend towers, while hearing the stories of wars and treaties that have influenced the region's history.
