The Caves of Hercules or the “Caves of Hercules”, as they are called, are located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco just outside Tangier and they are one of the most fascinating places in the world by the combination of the natural and mythical aspects. The caves were a place where Hercules stayed in mythologizing after he had completed his twelve labours and hence the caves were given a mythological significance. The caves, shaped by nature through induration and human carving, are placed at the Atlantic Ocean’s edge and they have become famous for the opening through which the sea enters the cave and which bears the shape of Africa. The Caves of Hercules still attract visitors nowadays, thanks to their combination of mythology, geology, coastal scenery, and cultural significance, thus they are indeed a must-see destination in the northern part of Morocco.
