Madaba is situated just 30 kilometers southwest of Amman and is one of the most important cities in Jordan in terms of history and culture. It is more or less synonymous with the “City of Mosaics,” Madaba is crowned with an awesome collection of artworks from the Byzantine and Umayyad periods that narrate melo-dramatic and peaceful coexistence of different cultures, religions, and civilizations.
The world-renowned Madaba Map mosaic of the 6th century is the center piece or the heart of the city and it is in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George.
