The most famous and the "Rose City," which stands for the pink shades of its sandstone rocks, Petra, is the most outstanding and iconic archaeological site of Jordan and one of the astonishing places in the world. Once the case of trade and culture, then later hidden from the world's sight for a long time until being discovered by the West in the 19th century.
The first step for tourists to go to Petra is through the Siq, which is a narrow and twisted canyon with large rock walls on both sides; it then suddenly opens to the grand entrance of the Treasury (Al-Khazneh) — the most photographed masterpiece in the world. After the Treasury, Petra becomes a huge city where all the buildings, like temples, tombs, and theaters, are made from the rocks directly. Some of the attractions are the Monastery (Ad-Deir), the Royal Tombs, and the High Place of Sacrifice, each giving an idea of the magnificence and the religious side of the ancient Nabataeans.
During the day, the great highness of Petra, together with its delicate carvings, is simply awesome. By night, it creates the illusion of magic with the nighttime experience of Petra by night for the thousands of candles that light up the Siq and Treasury, plus the stars above.
No matter if you are walking on ancient roads, admiring the creativity of its stone fronts, or just relaxing in the silence of the surrounding desert, Petra is no more a place to go but a trip to the core of history and to one of the greatest wonders of the world.
