Skoura is only 40 km east of Ouarzazate and is a picturesque town that reflects the classic beauty of the Moroccan desert . The nickname “Oasis of 1,000 Palms” strongly describes the town as it is a green wonderland where date palms, olive trees, and almond orchards are grown and all are supplied by the very rampant and elaborate irrigation canals that go back to ancient time.
The kasbah is known for the grandeur of its Amridil which is the best-preserved and the most famous of all the fortresses of Morocco that have appeared in various films, and it also provides a very interesting view into the life of the desert. The guests have the privilege to enter the carryings and yards of the fortress, stroll along the green palm trees and meet the local people who cultivate the land and make the goods based on which the region has been known for centuries.
Skoura is a charming and peaceful stop for travelers heading along the Route of the Thousand Kasbahs that eventually leads to Ouarzazate, Dades Valley, and Todra Canyons. Skoura, a picturesque palm oasis, is positioned 40 kilometers to the east of Ouarzazate which is in the southern part of Morocco. It is located on the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs making it an attraction that can be easily reached by either one's own car or a tour from the cities of Marrakech and Merzouga which are the major cities.
Skoura has become famous because of its huge palm forests, along with some of the finest Berber villages, and the most visited kasbahs, the most exquisite of which is, of course, Kasbah Amridil, the best-preserved fort-home in Morocco.
Visitors can partake in activities like visiting Kasbah Amridil, walking or cycling through the palm oasis, and visiting the farms in the region while enjoying the desert landscapes. They can also opt to stay in eco-lodges that are up to standard and have a cooking class taught by a chef in a local restaurant or go on a photography tour of the ancient mud-brick architecture.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best times when temperatures are mild and perfect for outdoor activities. Summers can be extremely hot while winters are cool during the night.
You can easily do all things in the oasis, kasbahs, and also indulge in the tranquility of the place during a one to two-night stay. A lot of travelers put Skoura on their route when going for a longer tour through the Dades Valley, Todra Gorges, or the Sahara Desert.
