6-Day Morocco Adventure: Explore Marrakech and Zagora Desert

Arrive at Menara Airport in Marrakech, meet our driver and then transfer to your hotel.
Overnight in Marrakech.

Breakfast. Your journey to Marrakech will start with the Medina, the ancient district of Marrakech. From here we will walk through this area, which has been charming historically. In Jemaa el-Fna, you will take a look at the renowned Koutoubia Mosque of the 12th century and its powerful minaret. After drinking a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, you will be taken to Lower Medina to reveal more of Marrakesh’s secrets: the 16th-century Saadian Tombs with their stark towers and the 19th-century Bahia Palace, which was originally designed for Si Moussa, a former slave who was the King’s chamberlain of the day. The palace consists of a courtyard and riads adorned with beautifully carved Arabic-style stucco.
Optional lunch at one of the Moroccan restaurants in the Medina and then transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay in Marrakech.

meals Breakfast

Breakfast. Marrakech, the "Red City," is the most significant one among the former imperial cities in Morocco. It is located at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. We will drive through the mountains for several miles, enjoying the magnificent view of the mountains and scattered Berber villages. Almost at the halfway point, we will pass the Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah, a fortified village of the 11th century, which is now a universal heritage site. 35 km away from Ait Ben Hadou Kasbah will be the place where we visit Ait Ben Hadou, where the biggest film studios are located, and this place is called Ouarzazate, which is known as the Hollywood of Africa. The journey will continue through the longest valley in the kingdom, which is 1052 km long, and the largest palm grove. Arrival at Zagora, where traces of an Almoravid castle are still visible. Overnight and dinner in Zagora.

meals Breakfast & Dinner

Breakfast. Departing from Zagora to Tamagrout, which is located next to the Draa River. In this little town, we will see one of the most ancient libraries of the kingdom. We continue our way through the Draa Valley down to M’hamid village. There, your 4x4 driver will be waiting for you and will take you to Chegag Dunes (60 km). From a huge plateau, the big Chegaga dune that seems to be coming out of the horizon will impress you, where we will go for a camel ride to have one of the most beautiful sights of the dunes, the sunset right in the high dune. We spent the night in a Berber camp and had a fantastic view of the stars.

meals Breakfast & Dinner

In the morning, we depart from Erg Chigaga and drive through the always stunning and hardest-to-reach places. The dried-up lake of Iriki is one of the natural sites worth seeing along the way. After miles of off-road driving through the desert, we hit the paved road and passed the very small town of Foum-Zguid, which is a quiet and sleepy Berber town. We made a short stop at Taznakht, which was once a major trading post for this vast region. Little Taznakht is not only a center for carpets but is still one of the biggest carpet centers of the whole kingdom. From Taznakht we drive for almost 90 Km, along quiet oases and plenty of Berber villages; to get to the junction between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, we cross the High Atlas Mountains again to return to Marrakech.
